The trust check

What’s worth knowing before a crew shows up.

A lawn plan is a long relationship: someone on your property every week or two, chemicals on the grass your kids and pets play on, and a bill every month. So every business gets the same plain check of what you can verify for yourself — not a rating, not an ad. Unknowns stay unknown.

  1. 01

    It’s a real business

Sourced from the business’s own website. Lead-generation pages, marketplaces and call centers don’t count.

  2. 02

    It’s licensed where it matters

Fertilizer and weed-control work in Florida needs an FDACS pest-control license. We show the number when the business publishes it or the state record matches by name and address.

  3. 03

    It says it’s insured

Insurance exactly as the business states it, with a link to where it says so. Always ask for the certificate.

  4. 04

    The terms are in writing

A published service agreement or guarantee, in the business’s own words. If it doesn’t publish one, we say so.

  5. 05

    You can see the price

Plan and job prices only when the business publishes them, with the source and the date we checked.

  6. 06

    Florida-Friendly or certified

Florida-Friendly Landscaping, GI-BMP, ISA or FNGLA credentials, as the business states them. Reviews are linked so you can read them yourself — we never invent ratings.

NEW TO A FLORIDA YARD?

The grass doesn’t stop,
so pick your crew carefully.

Around Tampa Bay, lawns grow most of the year and summer rain is heavy, so most plans run year-round and some cities restrict fertilizer in the rainy season. Compare written quotes, ask what each visit includes, and pick a business you trust. How to choose a lawn care company ↗

GOOD QUESTIONS

Finding a lawn pro
you can trust.

Straight answers about licenses, local fertilizer rules, lawn plans and how Find Yard Pros works. How we source our listings ↗

How do I find a trustworthy lawn care company in Tampa Bay?
Look for things you can check yourself: an official website and a real contact, an FDACS pest-control license if they apply fertilizer or weed control, a clear statement that they are insured, written service-agreement terms, published or written prices, and review pages you can read on the original platform. Find Yard Pros lists 1079 lawn care and landscaping businesses based in 77 Tampa Bay areas and shows which of these details we could confirm for each one, with links to the sources and the date we checked them (latest check 2026-11-06).
Does a lawn care company need a license in Florida?
Commercial application of fertilizer, pesticides and weed control to lawns and ornamentals is regulated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS): businesses doing that work need a pest-control business license, and the people applying need the matching certification. Mowing, trimming and installing plants alone generally don’t need an FDACS license, though your city or county may require a local business tax receipt. This is general information, not legal advice — check with FDACS for your situation. Right now 7 pros in the directory show an FDACS license number we could source.
Can lawn companies fertilize in summer around Tampa Bay?
Several local governments around Tampa Bay restrict nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer during the rainy season (typically June 1 to September 30) to protect the bay and other waters; rules differ by city and county and can change. Ask your lawn company how its summer program follows your local ordinance. See our guide: /guides/fertilizer-rules-tampa-bay.
What is the Find Yard Pros trust check?
It is a checklist on every profile: a real, sourced business; an FDACS license where the services need one; insurance as stated by the business; published service-agreement terms; published prices; and Florida-Friendly Landscaping or industry certification. It is not a rating. A missing item means we could not confirm it from a public source, not that the business is bad.
Does Find Yard Pros rate or rank lawn companies?
No. We never give businesses our own star ratings and we don’t copy ratings from other sites — we link to each business’s review pages so you see current reviews in context. By default, listings are sorted by how many trust-check details we could confirm. Some owner-verified businesses are Featured through a partnership with Winback Engine, the company behind Find Yard Pros; Featured listings are always labeled and can appear first, but Featured never changes a listing’s trust check, credentials or reviews.
What should I ask before signing up for a lawn care plan?
Are you licensed for fertilizer and weed control? In Florida, commercial fertilizer, pesticide and weed-control work on lawns is licensed by FDACS. Ask for the license number and look it up yourself. Are you insured? Ask for a certificate of insurance (general liability, and workers’ comp if they have employees) before a crew works on your property. What’s in the plan, and how do I cancel? Get the visit frequency, what each visit includes, price changes and cancellation terms in writing. What happens if a visit is missed? Ask how rain-outs and missed visits are rescheduled or credited, and how you’ll hear about it.
What is Florida-Friendly Landscaping?
Florida-Friendly Landscaping is a University of Florida IFAS program built on nine principles, such as right plant, right place; watering efficiently; fertilizing appropriately; and reducing stormwater runoff. Some landscapers say they design or maintain yards to those principles; we show it only when the business states it. 17 pros in the directory state it.
Do I book or pay through this site?
No. Every profile links to the business’s own website, quote page or phone number, so you deal directly with them. Find Yard Pros does not take bookings, payments or referral fees from homeowners.
A business is missing or out of date. How do I fix it?
Owners can claim a free profile, and anyone can suggest a missing business or a correction from the “For businesses” page. Requests are reviewed against the business’s official sources before anything changes on a public profile.
